WISH A Whole Scholar
Approach to Education

4th of July Parade- Join Us !

IMPORTANT DETAILS:

  • Where to Find Us: The WISH Float will be stationed on Manchester Avenue near the Tennis Key / Westchester Rec Center.
  • Parking: Many streets will be closed off around the parade route. You may need to park a few blocks away and walk to the starting point. We encourage you to also park in the Hannon lot at LMU and walk down the parade route to the starting point. The Hannon parking lot is the endpoint of the parade; therefore, your car will be waiting for you when we complete our march. If you plan on parking on the LMU campus, please enter LMU via Lincoln Blvd. Click here for the MAP.
  • Arrival and Judging: We hope many of you can join us on Manchester Blvd. by 10:15 am for the judging of the entries! The parade starts at 11:00 am and we should finish around 12:30. We anticipate our float will begin the route around 11:45 am.
  • Thematic Costumes and Props - We encourage everyone to join the float's theme by dressing up as dinosaurs from the Natural History Museum, museum-themed attire, or by wearing WISH wear!
  • Seating on the float is limited - Students who wish to sit on the float for the parade route are encouraged to come early as spots will be assigned on a first-come come-first first-served basis. Seating on the float is also limited to WISH students only; parents are encouraged to walk alongside the float for the 3/4 mile route.
  • Walking with the float: Students and families may also join us with decorated bikes, strollers, wagons, scooters, and skateboards, but all participants must remain behind the float and be mindful of their safety and that of other participants.
  • Extra Essentials: Please bring water, hats, sunscreen, and snacks for your children. The route is only 3/4 of a mile, but we may be waiting for a short while before we take off.

Group Picture following the parade: We look forward to having you join us for this fun community-building activity, and make sure you stay for the group picture at the end of the parade with our float!

6th-12th Grade Service Learning Hours Opportunity

All WISH middle and high school students can earn 3 hours toward their service learning requirement on Friday, July 4th by enthusiastically sitting on the float and/or walking alongside the float to showcase their WISH pride to the community and helping to dismantle the float at the end of the parade (in the LMU parking lot at the parade's endpoint). Students must check in with a middle school or high school staff member at the check-in table near the float. Please download our Service Learning Mobile App.
