The Race for Success on Saturday, April 20th was a tremendous success thanks to your participation! For the second year in a row. WISH won the Hannon Spirit Award for having the most participants out of all of our local schools!Thank you to all of the volunteers and runners that attended. The many adults modeling a healthy active lifestyle alongside the energetic children were truly inspiring. WAY TO GO, TEAM WISH!
From flowers on Monday to sweet treats on Friday, our teachers and staff were spoiled last week by the thoughtfulness of all of our WISH families during Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you to all of the Room Parents for organizing the special surprises throughout the week, and to Amanda Swanlund for planning the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday. We are so lucky to have such caring parents to partner with at WISH!
WISH Charter is excited to announce our nominee for the 2013 “Outstanding Teacher of the Year”: First Grade teacher Emily Vlasic! This year is the 30th anniversary of the Annual Teacher Eddy Awards sponsored by the Education Committee of the LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce. Local schools in Westchester, Playa Del Rey and Playa Vista have submitted their nominees, and one teacher will be awarded “Top Teacher” with a $1,000 donation presented to their school at the Eddy Awards presentation on Tuesday, May 14th at the Hilton LAX. Multiple WISH families nominated Mrs. Vlasic for her incredible commitment to the six tenets of WISH. Congratulations, Mrs. Vlasic, on your nomination for “Outstanding Teacher of the Year”!
On Friday, May 3rd, WISH Charter's 4th and 5th grade students participated in unique "in-school field trips" designed to present social studies and history curriculum through literacy and performing arts. The programs are called "Walk Throughs" and are presented by California Weekly Explorer, with the idea that history is better "experienced" than read, and that having students relive history gives them an opportunity to relate and connect to the events and people of our past. Funds for this hands-on experience were raised by the WISH Community Association to bring this opportunity to our students!
